Rules for using the Period?
Most of us recognize this game from Milton Bradley and then the Hasbro collection, with clinking red and black checkers in a vertical matrix. But did you know that it’s actually centuries old?
There is evidence of people playing games of alignment as far as 3,500 years in the past in ancient Egypt by scratching into boards or dirt, creating pieces out of rocks or other baubles.
Captain James Cook used to play it on his ship during long voyages to pass the time. He used round wooden balls in a slotted wooden board he created himself.
It wasn’t until 1974 that Milton Bradley turned this game into the plastic phenom it’s become, fascinating thousands of kids and adults. Today you can see this game in miniature travel sizes and massive yard games around the world.
